Gujarat

Gujarat joined the celebration of International Yoga Day with a large number of people turning out for the program at AHMEDABAD.

GUJARAT Chief minister Vijay Rupani, students and teachers of different educational institutes, faith groups, government officials and citizens participated in the event under the guidance of Yoga instructor Nagesh Singh of Patanjali.

Greeting the participants and organizers on the occasion, the Governor said Yoga was essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science that focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body.

“It is an art and science for healthy living,” he said and called upon the people to incorporate Yoga as part of their daily life.

Yoga, he said, provides physical and mental well being of the people and that is why it has been gaining popularity both in the East and the West.

He said Yoga is not a religion but a way of living, aiming for a healthy mind in a healthy body.

It aims to achieve this through a series of physical and mental exercises, he said.

“Yoga originated in Hindusthan, the Land of the Indus or Bharatvarsa nearly 15000 years ago when there was no religious division in the society and was universally accepted as one of the most ideal practices of mankind,” he added.
